Information We Collect

Monitus does not require account creation and does not collect personally identifiable information such as names, email addresses, passwords, payment information, or unrelated browsing history. We collect the minimal amount of information necessary to provide and improve our services.

Core Functionality Data

To provide its core functionality of monitoring web page changes, Monitus saves data related to the tracking tasks you create. This includes website URLs and site icons, HTML selectors and the text content of tracked elements, action recipes, snapshot history of tracked elements, and minimal technical error information related to tracking operations. This data is stored locally on your device within your browser's extension storage and is not transmitted to our external servers.

Anonymous Analytics Data

We use PostHog, a third-party analytics service, to collect anonymous usage data. This helps us understand how the extension is used so we can improve its features and reliability. Events may include extension installation, updates, popup opens, feature usage, tracking errors, and settings modifications. Analytics data is associated with a randomly generated anonymous identifier and is not linked to your personal identity, email address, or user account.

Permissions We Use

Monitus requests specific browser permissions strictly to provide the extension's core functionality. The storage permission is used to save tracking configurations and snapshot history locally. The notifications permission is used to notify you when changes are detected. The activeTab and scripting permissions are used to let you select elements on web pages and monitor pages you explicitly choose.

Background Monitoring Behavior

To accurately monitor web pages at the intervals you define, Monitus may open lightweight pinned background tabs to perform browser-side checks. These tabs are used exclusively for checking your tracked pages. They are not used for advertising, tracking unrelated browsing behavior, or collecting personal data.

How We Use Your Information

Locally stored data is used to provide the service and allow the extension to track changes on websites selected by the user. Anonymous analytics events are used to identify bugs, understand feature adoption, and improve the extension's reliability and user experience.

Optional Donation Links

Monitus may include optional links to third-party platforms, such as Buy Me a Coffee, for users who wish to support the development of the extension. If you choose to use these links, you will be redirected to the third-party platform. Monitus does not collect or process your payment information. Any information you provide during the donation process is handled by the third-party platform according to its own privacy policy and terms.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to outside parties. We do not use your data for advertising or credit-worthiness purposes. The only third-party service we use is PostHog, strictly for anonymous product analytics as described in this policy.

Data Retention and Deletion

Tracking data is stored locally on your device, giving you control over it. You can delete this data by removing your tracks within the extension or by uninstalling Monitus from your browser. Anonymous analytics data sent to PostHog is retained in accordance with PostHog's privacy practices and is used solely to improve the product.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify users of material changes by updating the Last Updated date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the extension after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
